Political observers in the state, in the past two days, felt that Yeddyurappa's fall was imminent, but the CM's knack to change calamity to opportunity won over all. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa was yet again able to sail smooth in turbulent waters banking on the upcoming by-polls, and a strong complaint against K S Eswarappa and H N Ananth Kumar, who are spearheading the dissident movement. Political developments witnessed on Wednesday gave observers the feeling that the flashpoint was near and that Yeddyurappa's fall was imminent.
Meet and greet: Yeddyurappa has called a meeting of the BJP legislators
today, and sources said that he would try to win their confidence in the
meeting. File picHowever, the Yeddyurappa government dramatically recovered yesterday and sources in the BJP attributed the revival to a complaint lodged by the CM with the party high command. In addition, the by-polls for three assembly constituencies scheduled for next month came in handy for the CM in building a case against those leading the dissidence.
Great player"I think Yeddyurappa has a knack for turning calamity into opportunity. While Prerana Trust scam was threatening to take its toll on his government, the CM convinced the high command that it was the design of party insiders joining hands with the JD(S). And the high command instead of asking him to step-down, chided Eswarappa and Ananth Kumar for their antiparty activities," said a BJP leader.
In a stinging letter to national president of the BJP, Nitin Gadkari, Yeddyurappa is believed to have established the clandestine link between Ananth Kumar and JD(S) boss H D Deve Gowda, who raised Prerana Trust issue in the Lok Sabha.u00a0
Groupism in BJP
"While it is a known fact that Ananth Kumar is in good terms with Deve Gowda, Yeddyurappa exposed him before the high command on charges of anti-party stand, and his version was believed, as his argument sounded logical," said the leader.
Yeddyurappa, in his complaint, has also targeted Ewarappa, accusing him of eyeing the CM post and indulging in groupism. He argued that he had ulterior motives in provoking a revolt, when the party was going to face the by-polls. Reddy brothers and other senior leaders have also come under attack, in the complaint.
Gadkari, who always sympathises with Yeddyurappa, is said to have advised Eswarappa and Ananth Kumar to behave and work for the party's victory in the by-polls. Following the high command strictures, the dissidence died down temporarily and most MLAs seen in the dissidence camp on Wednesday, returned to the CM yesterday with an apology.
"I think they were misguided by some mischievous elements in the party and now they have realised their mistake. The confusion has been cleared now and we are going ahead to fight the by-polls together," Yeddyurappa told MiD DAY. He has called a meeting of the BJP legislators today, and sources said that he would try to win their confidence in the meeting.
Not reallyHowever, the rebels are refusing to relent.u00a0 "It is not true that the high command has warned us. There are certain concerns expressed by the legislators and we brought them to the notice of the high command.
They said the concerns would be addressed once the by-polls are over. That does not mean that the problem is solved completely," said Eswarappa.
