Designer's Cake Shop in Malad lends an unusual twist to fresh cream cakes by incorporating mithai for a heady Indo-western sweet rush
Among the 'unusual' challenges that the contestants on the first season of MasterChef India had to complete, was to bake a Black Forest Rasgulla Cake. Turns out, it's what Designer's Cake Shop in Malad has been doing since 2005.

The difference being that Designer's does one minus the cherries and chocolate, and also offers an option with Rasmalai.
Mohan Sengupta, owner, Designer's Cake Shop, says, "One of our customers suggested we experiment with Indian sweets and recommended using Rasmalai and Gulab Jamun in our cakes."
Designer's decided to incorporate the suggestion in baby steps, initially choosing to sell mithais inside pastries to gauge customer response.
That was in 2005. Today, the Fresh Cream Rasmalai Cake is one of the most popular choices on their menu, according to Mohan, who says, "We sell around three kilos of it everyday."
At Rs 620 per kilo, price is not a deterrent. The Fresh Cream Gulab Jamun Cake, priced at Rs 480 a kilo, is another popular choice, claims Mohan.
The cakes are available in egg and eggless options.
