This is in reference to the news report of Harbhajan Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni failing to attend the Padma Shri awards which were given away by President of India Pratibha Patil at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
Invites for such prestigious functions are notified much earlier, and awardees must ensure that they attend them as a mark of respect towards the nation.
Those who give the awards a miss should not be bestowed with them. Exemption from presence at award ceremonies may be granted rarely and only on genuine circumstances.
