Mumbai's D-Day

The BMC elections clogged timelines for much of the day even though, ironically, vote turnout was abysmal in the first half. Shrishti Arya tweeted: 'Once again, I do not exist as per the voters list! If you exist, please vote! Make the difference.' Someone using the handle Sootradhar added: 'Bad officials are elected by good men who do not vote. Voting is your birthright.' There was this from Rajarshi Dutta: 'Those who won't vote today should not have any right to complain tomorrow. What happened to Mumbai's resilience?' There was this suggestion from Rohit: 'Exercise your right to vote. And while you're at it, you could do with some real exercise too.' And from RK Misra: 'In the 2007 elections, 37 candidates won by less than 500 votes. Please vote for a good candidate, not party.'

Pottermania
Fans of Harry Potter chose the day, for no apparent reason, to shower their favourite author with love. Katie Krause tweeted: 'J K Rowling is trending. It only seems right to thank her for having one of the most creative and beautiful minds ever.' There were other tweets like these: 'Thank you for the magical story we will carry with us for the rest of our lives', 'Thank you for letting me know that Hogwarts will always be there to welcome us' and '1.090.739 words, 3.363 pages, 199 chapters, 7 books, 8 movies, 17 hours and 13 minutes, 1 legend. Thank you, J.K Rowling.'

Making them smile
What do girls love? Answers to that question included these: 'When you don't check out other girls in front of them' and 'when you remember the little things, like their birthdays or who their best friends are.'

The last word
From journalist Rajdeep Sardesai: 'In India, the poorer you are, the more likely you are to vote. In America, it's the reverse. Does that make us a better democracy?'
