This paper and this edit space has often highlighted how a large number of persons took the first vaccination dose but for reasons best known to them, and some not valid at all, did not take the second dose at all.
There were several who were scared off, seeing some fever or slight reaction after the first dose and did not report to complete the two-dose vaccination. Some others simply did not go, thinking they had enough protection or that they did not have the time or the wherewithal to access the centres again. There were reports about experts exhorting persons to finish the two vaccines. Statistics showed a yawning gap between those who had taken the first dose and those who had finished both.
As we now move into what is effectively a third, precautionary dose for seniors, frontline persons, we do hope that this demographic completes their third dose, as a finished dosage should be the one which is most effective. This is not to say that a fourth dose may not appear but that is the shifting nature of the pandemic and that may happen later. Today, it is the third dose being offered.
Even during treatment for any illness, we need to finish the prescribed dose by a doctor for maximum efficacy, treat the vaccination just like that. Laypersons cannot be deciding for themselves that they have âenough' doses or protection for the simple reason that they are not qualified to do so.
Put your faith in science and top doctors and experts and make a wise choice of completing the job on hand. Each of us is instrumental in seeing that the pandemic ends, though that may seem gargantuan, we all have our parts to play. Making yourself as safe as possible so that it is hard to spread the virus, is a big part of the outbreak endgame.
