Yawning is a sign of sexual attraction rather than a desire to sleep, scientists are now claiming.
In fact, the act of yawning can demonstrate a range of emotions including interest, stress and even wanting to have sex, The Telegraph reported.
But scientists have not yet been able to differentiate between a yawn that signifies erotic arousal and simply the need to catch some sleep.
A new theory in this regard was introduced at the first "International Conference on Yawning" held in Paris.
Though an average person yawns 240,000 times during his lifetime, the actual theory behind yawning still remains a mystery. Scientists still don't know exactly why a person yawns, although the common and most favourite theory is that it provides extra oxygen to the brain.
"We can send a man to the Moon but we cannot explain this most trivial of acts," Wolter Seuntjens, a Dutch expert in chasmology or the science of yawn studies, was quoted as saying.
The concept of the erotic yawn took root in the minds of experts after many sexologists said they were consulted by people who yawned during sex.
