IT could well have been an extremely satisfying day at work for Catford Wanderers' Damion Grosscel. After all, he had bowled his 13 overs for just 23 runs. But former India international Abhijit Kale changed the script and the left-arm medium pacer's bowling figures significantly in just one over. He scored 39, including six sixes in a row off an over in which three no-balls were bowled.u00a0

The stocky Indian batsman ended up scoring an unbeaten 152 for Linden Park in Kent League Division 3 team's total of 247 on Tuesday.

"I am surprised to be honest," Kale told MiD DAY from England yesterday. "I never thought I could achieve this feat. But yeah, it is extremely pleasing," Kale added.u00a0

Kale, who has represented several clubs across England in the 10 years he has been visiting the country, said the fact that Linden Park's innings was coming to an end also helped.

Seven in a row
"Actually, not many overs were left. I had to go after the bowling and it just happened. At first, I was not even thinking on those lines (hitting six sixes). But after I hit four sixes, I thought I could do it," Kale whose contract was renewed for a second season at the club said.

Incidentally, the first he ball he faced in the next over was dispatched for a huge six as well, making it seven in a row.

Though Kale is now content playing for lower division clubs in England, the controversy that rocked Indian cricket few years ago still keeps coming back to him. It was alleged that Kale had attempted to bribe an India selector for a place in the Indian team. "How much ever I try to forget that incident, it keeps coming back. But one has to move on and I have," Kale said.
