The biggest surprise in Pakistan's list of 35 probables named for the Asia Cup and England tour was the selection of fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.
Asked as to how he would handle the temperamental and controversial fast bowler, skipper Afridi said: "He's a matured person now. He's a professional and my relations with him are very good."
It is learnt that the Pakistan selectors were not in favour of selecting Akhtar and it was at Afridi's insistence that the fast bowler was picked.
Afridi is keen to prove that Akhtar is still a match-winner.
"Hopefully, whatever cricket he plays from now on, it will be controversy-free. From the Pakistan team's point of view, I hope he plays his best cricket in his couple of years in the game," said Afridi.
"If Pakistan have to do well, then seniors like Akhtar, Younus Khan and Shoaib Malik will have to do well," added Afridi.
