Sri Lanka continued to pile the pressure on Pakistan as Tillakaratne Dilshan followed up Thilan Samaraweera's double century with a ton of his own in the second Test today.
Dilshan, unbeaten on 141 as the tourists reached 566-7 by tea on the second day, carried on the good work put in by Samaraweera, who notched his second double hundred of the series before being run out for 214.
Samaraweera added 207 for the fifth wicket with Dilshan, erasing the previous best stand of 143 for this wicket against Pakistan set by Russel Arnold and Romesh Kaluwitharana at the same ground in 1999.
Pakistan's best bowler, Umar Gul (5-122), dismissed Thilan Thushara for 10 in the last over before tea.
The right-handed Samaraweera, who made 231 in the drawn first Test in Karachi, was untroubled during his knock on the Gaddafi Stadium pitch.
Samaraweera, 31, took a single off spinner Shoaib Malik to complete his double hundred after a 388-minute stay at the crease.
When he was run out, Samaraweera had batted for 414 minutes, faced 338 balls and hit 32 boundaries.
Dilshan, who failed in both innings in Karachi, had hit 21 boundaries during his 165-ball knock at tea.
Pakistan's experienced leg-spinner Danish Kaneria was once again a major disappointment, conceding 174 runs without taking a wicket in his 45 overs.
Gul, who took three of the four wickets to fall on yesterday, removed Prasanna Jayawardene for 15 for his fourth haul of five or more wickets in a Test innings.
