Pace great Holding says he could not have bowled some of the balls Jerome bowled vs England
Not often does Michael Holding get a chance to say complimentary things about the current West Indian team.
But the hosts' innings and 23 runs win over England at Sabina Park on Saturday gave the fast bowling great an opportunity and he used his praise brush extensively.
Holding told Sky Sports "I was very, very happy with the plans I saw in place and it wasn't just setting plans, but executing them.
"So many times you have team meetings and everyone knows the weaknesses of the opposition and exactly what you want to do but you have got to go there and actually get the job done. They went out there and did exactly what was required."
Jerome praise
The Jamaican legend was thrilled to see the West Indies bowlers dismiss England for a mere 51. Jerome Taylor, who finished with remarkable figures of 5-11 from nine overs came in for some wholesome praise. Holding paid Taylor the ultimate tribute when he said, "I think he produced a few deliveries that I certainly could not have produced."
Holding (54) claimed 249 wickets in 60 Tests for the West Indies from 1975 to 1987. "The one that got rid of Pietersen was a fantastic delivery that early in the innings, but for me the delivery of the entire Test match was the one that got rid of Matt Prior. He left a big gate, but that is because he was totally deceived. It was a slow delivery, an off-cutter pitched exactly where it needed to be pitched. Because it was slower, Prior was pushing the bat at something that wasn't quite there and that created the gap between bat and pad."
