"Sachin is not here, I am missing him already," Barnes told MiD DAY during South Africa's practice session at the Services Cricket Ground here yesterday.
In case you were getting curious: No, we are not talking about the world's leading run-getter here, but the 51-year-old Cape Town native's pooch!
"Obviously, I couldn't bring him along, what with all the travelling that takes place during such a tournament.
We have already moved to three different cities since arriving here for the World Cup. Either way, it never crossed my mind. There are enough people back home to take care of him," said the former first-class cricketer with 323 wickets at a miserly average of 11.95. Barnes, who was seen working with South Africa's potent pace-attack for the past five years, had named his dog after the 37-year-old Mumbaikar, his most favourite batsman.u00a0
Asked if he would be tracking the real Sachin's progress at the World Cup, Barnes said: "Definitely, yes. I don't know if this is his last World Cup. He's a superman, and is capable of anything."
So, have the two Sachins ever met? "(Laughs) No, not yet. Maybe in the near future," he said.
