Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh in the second and final Test against the West Indies after captain Mashrafe Mortaza was ruled out with a knee injury, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said today.
"Mortaza has been ruled out of the second Test after he failed to recover from his injury," the board announced in a press release.
"Vice-captain Shakib Al Hasan will lead the side while left-arm spinner Enamul Haque replaces Mortaza in the team."
Mortaza fell clumsily on his right knee when bowling during the first Test and spent the last two-and-a-half days in recovery.
"Mortaza has injured the cartilage in his right knee. This was confirmed after an MRI performed three days ago. Advice from a specialist knee surgeon is being sought to confirm the management of the injury," the board added.
Bangladesh need only to draw the second Test to fulfill a long-held dream of their first series victory after they took a 1-0 lead with a 95-run victory in the opening game at St Vincent.
The second Test gets under way at the Queen's Park Stadium Complex in St George's, Grenada later today.
