Spectators claim closing ceremony was not as good as opening

Unlike the CWG opening ceremony, the Rs 70-crore aerostat wasn't the star attraction in the closing ceremony. A huge helium balloon was just suspended above the ground and showcased some recorded films and reflected the lighting on the field of play.

Though the great laser show and musical performances by renowned Bollywood singers and artistes were the main attraction of the closing ceremony, in comparison to the opening, the closing show was relatively dull.
"I had missed the opening ceremony. Everyone who witnessed the opening ceremony said it was extraordinary. The organisers should have used the aerostat fully this time too," said Siddhartha Garg, a resident of Rajouri Garden, who came to watch the ceremony with his son.

Another spectator, who had watched the opening ceremony as well, said, "Though I enjoyed the show, this ceremony was not even close to the spectacle witnessed at the opening ceremony. It wasn't extraordinary for sure," said Jai Shankar Srivastav, a real-estate agent.

In fact, spectators applauded the Scottish performers more than others, as they proudly showcased their country's spirit, culture and heritage in a 10-minute Glasgow segment. "There were more innovations and newness. The Clyde Arc Bridge with the Armadillo and River Clyde flowing underneath was created, leaving all mesmerised," said Smriti Rai, a school teacher.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where the closing ceremony was held, witnessed packed house and it went on without any hitch. Spectators from across the country and foreign tourists started queuing up at the gates of the stadium well before the time, as they were in no mood to miss a single moment of the show. The concluding celebration was a blend of contemporary art and youthfulness. Yet again, the spectacular fireworks enthralled more than 60, 000 people present on the occasion with their
performance.
