Attend a workshop where lovers of the language unite for a fling with poet-playwright William Shakespeare
What could possibly happen at a workshop that discusses William Shakespeare? "A lot," says author Karishma Attari, who was once discussing sexual politics at a session, when two people from different corners of the room read out a funny and loaded exchange between Beatrice and Bennedick from Much Ado About Nothing. "They got carried away with the witty sparring," recalls the author. "By the end, you could see sparks fly between this pair. It was as if the scene had come alive."
Her workshop, Shakespeare For Dummies is for anyone who is curious about the legendary playwright. "This mix guarantees fun. The students are generally well-versed with Shakespeare and the fun is getting them to unwind and enjoy him. The average professional, on the other hand, doesn't remember much beyond, may be, reading the bard in school. The challenge there is to get them up to speed, so that the games can start," says Attari.
Apart from a quick introduction to Shakespeare's language, the workshop will have interactive word games and read-alouds, before the session moves towards deeper themes.
"Shakespeare belongs to everyone. After all, every time you say 'elbow' or 'eyeball' you're quoting Shakespeare aren't you?," asks Attari.
