Finally, Kartik Aaryan’s romantic drama with filmmaker Anurag Basu has found its title. mid-day has learnt that the romantic musical has been christened Tu Meri Zindagi Hai, taking inspiration from the Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal song in Aashiqui (1990). Sources, however, reveal that the makers chose this as it distances the project enough from the Aashiqui franchise.
Many may remember that the film, also starring Sreeleela, was originally envisioned as the third instalment in the Aashiqui franchise. However, producers Mukesh Bhatt and Bhushan Kumar parted ways, and the latter decided to make the Aaryan-Basu collaboration as a standalone film. “When choosing the title, it was a pre-emptive move by the makers to avoid making a direct reference to Aashiqui. The team wanted a name that evoked nostalgia, but didn’t risk legal or creative complications. Tu Meri Zindagi Hai felt like the perfect fit,” says a source.
