Irrfan Khan, one of the finest actors of the country, passed away last year on April 29 after complications arising out of colon infection. His last release as an actor was Angrezi Medium that released in March 2020. At the recently held 66th annual Filmfare Awards, he was awarded the Best Actor Award for his performance.

He was also bestowed with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi Cinema. His son Babil attended the ceremony to collect the award on the late actor’s behalf. Rajkummar Rao and Ayushmann Khurrana, who were hosting the event, paid a tribute to the actor’s legacy that made Babil emotional.

As he walked towards the stage to collect the Black Trophy, stood on the ramp and gave his speech, the choke could be sensed in his voice and eyes. This was truly a moment of glory and pride for him and the unforgettable contribution of the late Khan. A user on Twitter shared the video, have a look right here:

For the uninitiated, Anushka Sharma and brother Karnesh’s next production, Qala, marks the debut of Babil. The Netflix film, helmed by Anvitaa Dutt, also features Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. Sharma had collaborated with Dutt and Dimri on Bulbbul (2020), which also dropped digitally. The director describes Qala as a “heart-breaking story about a daughter who craves her mother’s love.”

Earlier this year, Babil had admitted that he is keen to follow in his late father’s footsteps. Last month, he dropped a hint on social media by posting “that there’s some stuff cooking.” He added that he “was extremely frightened” on having started his journey in Indian cinema “without any formal training” and often calms his anxieties by “looking at Baba’s pictures from NSD.” Babil’s acting career takes off just before Irrfan’s first death anniversary on April 29.
