After his successful run as a musician, Guru on foraying into acting with Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay
Guru Randhawa
Acting wasn’t on his mind initially. But after a decade-long run as a musician, Guru Randhawa felt ready to explore a different facet of himself. “I felt like attempting acting post 2020. Around that time, I read a few scripts and chose the one I felt was the best,” says the singer-songwriter, referring to Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay.

The film also stars Saiee Manjrekar
Also starring Saiee Manjrekar, the romantic comedy tells the story of a young married couple who battle their families’ pressure to have a baby. Randhawa says Ashok G’s directorial venture was the perfect acting launchpad for him, given its target audience. “When you do a cute love story that leads to a social message, you connect with everybody, especially the families. I’ve always been a family singer and I knew that if I’m [foraying] into films, I had to make a family film.”
The musician joins a number of Punjabi pop stars like Diljit Dosanjh, Gippy Grewal, and Jassie Gill, who ventured into acting after dominating the music scene. But he insists that he never intended to follow in the footsteps of his peers. Instead, his decision came from his deep love for the movies. “I never looked up to them to start acting. If that was the case, I would have done it a long time ago. But because I have a pan-India audience, I had a bigger responsibility. I’ve had my own journey when it comes to movies. I’m a cinema lover, and I’m influenced by Robert De Niro, Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Leonardo [DiCaprio].”
