Over the next four days, a retrospective of Divya Dutta’s movies will be held at the 13th Indian Film Festival of Ireland in Dublin. It will begin with her Punjabi film, Maa, in which she plays a mother who brings up her two sons, one biological (Babbal Rai), and the other, adopted (Gippy Grewal).

From the actor’s Hindi films repertoire, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Chalk and Duster, Stanley Ka Dabba, and Irada, which saw her win the National Award for Best Actor (Female) in a Supporting Role, will be screened. While some will have an on-ground screening, others will be screened virtually for the audiences across the globe.

“It’s lovely when your work is being celebrated like this. For an artiste, there is no bigger reward than to know people watch and appreciate your work,” enthuses Dutta, who leaves for Dublin this morning. She adds, “I am glad that people in Ireland and around the world will be able to see these films that are very close to my heart.”

Ask her if there’s one film she would have liked to feature in her retrospective, and she replies, “The films that the festival directors have chosen are very good. I’m glad to have been a part of them and proud of my work in them too. I’m sure given the duration of the festival, they could showcase only so many films.”
