On Friday, Shaan reacted to reports stating that over 1,700 people tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kumbh Mela between April 10 and 14. According to the Uttarakhand State Control Room, there were 254 COVID-19 positive cases on April 10, 386 on April 11, 408 on April 12, 594 on April 13 and 525 on April 14.

“Why would God save us if we are just not interested in saving ourselves and our families?” he posted. “Please stay home, stay safe,” the singer added.

Several B-Town folk, including Ram Gopal Varma, Anubhav Sinha and Soni Razdan, also reacted to the Kumbh Mela being conducted amid the second wave of the pandemic.

Soni Razdan tweeted, "Guess where all the tests are and no wonder we don’t have any .... ‘Nearly 1,300 test Covid positive at Kumbh in 5 days, 14 lakh take part in 3rd shahi snan’"

"Not sure if I'm more traumatised by videos of the Kumbh and election rallies or by COVID. I think it's the former," the veteran actress said in one more tweet.

Ram Gopal tweeted that "Politicians don’t care about the people DYING once they cast their votes"

"You know what the real bad news is? It's going to get much worse. Election campaigns are peaking. Hundreds of thousands of People from the Kumbh, Haridwar are returning home. P. R. E. P. A. R. E," filmmaker Anubhav Sinha posted late on Thursday.

The ongoing Kumbh, which has seen people from different parts of the country attending the auspicious event in large numbers, has drawn flak from various quarters as the number of COVID-19 cases has zoomed at a rapid pace in the past few weeks. The event has also reported the coronavirus cases in large numbers. The ongoing Kumbh has already been shortened this year to just one month from April 1 to 30 due to the pandemic. In normal circumstances, the event, which comes once in 12 years, is held from mid-January to April.

India reported 2,34,692 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the biggest single-day spike ever, taking the overall tally to 14,526,609 cases on Saturday, according to the Health Ministry data.
