Against the backdrop of the monument, DJ Aqeel employs the theme music of revered films to create an hour-long tribute

Trip to the Taj

DJ Aqeel

Two years after he first conceptualised an hour-long instrumental track that paid homage to some of the most popular films of the decades gone by, DJ Aqeel finally released Taj on his birthday over the weekend. “A long and confidential” process enabled him to secure permission to shoot at the Taj Mahal, rushes of which were used in his track with clips from the films in question. “I am a big fan of these movies. The first one that I made was on the theme of Game of Thrones, and then The Avengers. I kept adding on to it. I’d play a few of the tunes in my [virtual] sets, and the reception was always great,” says Aqeel, adding that apart from carefully recreating the tracks, he worked on crafting a video that did justice to the films’ visuals.

Having shot the track at the Taj in February, Aqeel intends to take it across India, and possibly at festivals overseas, when normalcy is restored. The creation is an extension of his effort to present music that enables him to perform at festivals like Tomorrowland. “I [visualise] going on the road with this song with dancers. I will talk to a few foreign agencies [for promotions], and wish to perform at Sunburn.” In the pipeline is a track in collaboration with Sonu Nigam.
