She shared screen space with the superstar in Dangal (2016) and Thugs of Hindostan (2018). A section of netizens raked up reports of the alleged closeness of the two actors and the gossip that did the rounds about them during the filming of Thugs of Hindostan.

Khan and Rao released a statement on their divorce and said- "In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now, we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives—no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together," read the statement, as they continue their family vacation in Ladakh. Aamir, who is scheduled to resume work for Laal Singh Chadha, will then take off to Kargil for the shoot in four days.
