Robert Redford, the Hollywood golden boy who became an Oscar-winning director, liberal activist and godfather for independent cinema under the name of one of his best-loved characters, died Tuesday at 89. He was best known for films like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President`s Men and Ordinary People has passed away at the age of 89.
Cindi Berger, the chief executive of the publicity firm Rogers & Cowan PMK, shared the news in a statement to the New York Times, Variety reported. As per Berger, Redford had died in his sleep early Tuesday morning. The actor passed away at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved, publicist Cindi Berger said in a statement. No cause of death was provided.
