The 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival kicked off this Tuesday, and we already have the biggest moment from the grand event, as veteran actor Robert De Niro was bestowed with the honorary Palme d`Or for Lifetime Achievement on Tuesday evening (midnight in India). The Palme d`Or was presented to De Niro by actor and film producer Leonardo DiCaprio at the festival’s opening ceremony.

Accompanying the big honour was a grand round of applause and a heartfelt tribute from the audience, who stood up to give him a standing ovation as De Niro received the award. Not only the audience present at the ceremony, but the members of the jury were also seen giving a standing ovation to the veteran actor at the Cannes 2025 opening ceremony.
