Rapper Eminem has filed a lawsuit against tech giant Meta for copyright infringement. The rapper, through his publishing company Eight Mile Style, filed the suit against Meta Platforms — which owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — accusing the company of unauthorized use of his music catalog and seeking over $109 million in damages. According to E! News, the lawsuit was filed in court on May 30.
As per court documents, Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) alleged that Meta violated the copyrights of 243 songs from his catalog through the "unauthorized storage, reproduction, and exploitation” of the tracks on its platforms. The suit also claimed that Meta’s apps allow and encourage users to steal his music and use it in video content on their platforms without proper attribution or license.
Due to these alleged violations, Eminem is seeking monetary compensation for “the diminished value of the copyrights by Defendants’ theft of them, lost profits, and Defendants’ profits attributable to the infringement.” He has requested $150,000 for each infringed song, amounting to a total of $109,350,000 (approximately Rs 900 crore).
