Rajinikanth's film 'Jailer' has hit the theatres and ardent fans of the superstar headed to the theatres for the first day first show. Rajinikanth has returned to the big screen after two years. With the massive turnout for the film and a positive word of mouth, the film is eyeing at breaking several records at the box office. The film has hit a mammoth 900 theatres across Tamil Nadu. Helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar and bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, Jailer stars Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vinayakan and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles, alongside Rajini. Its songs have been composed by Anirudh Ravichander. While we wait for the box office report of Jailer, here's looking at the reports of Rajinikanth's last 5 films.


Annaathe (2021) 


The film stars Rajinikanth, Khushbu, Meena, Nayanthara and Keerthy Suresh while Jagapathi Babu, Prakash Raj and Soori star in prominent roles. Released to coincide with Diwali, the film got negative reviews from critics. Despite that the film collected Rs 70 cr worldwide and Rs 34.7 in India. 


Darbar (2020) 

The film which stars Rajinikanth, Nayanthara, Nivetha Thomas and Suniel Shetty marked the superstar playing the role of a police officer after 27 years. The film opened to mixed reviews but went on to become the highest grosser Tamil film of 2020. The film collected Rs 30.8 crore on its opening day which was also the festival of Pongal. The film collected Rs 85 crore in its opening weekend and collected gross of around Rs 202-250 crore worldwide. 

Petta (2019) 

The film stars Rajinikanth alongside an ensemble cast featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, M. Sasikumar, Simran, Trisha, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanan, Mahendran, Bobby Simha, Guru Somasundaram, Aadukalam Naren, Munishkanth, and Sananth in supporting roles. The film opened to a first-day collection of Rs 11.8 crores whereas it managed to rake Rs 36.6 crores worldwide on day 1.

Kaala (2018) 

The film stars Rajinikanth in the titular role alongside Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Eswari Rao, and Huma Qureshi who appear supporting roles. The film grossed Rs 160 crore against a budget of Rs 140 crore and was moderately successful at the box office. On the opening day, the film managed to make over just Rs 15 crore at the Tamil Nadu box office and Rs 26 crore nationwide. 

2.0 (2018) 

Produced on an estimated budget of Rs 400–600 crore, 2.0 is the most expensive Indian film at the time of its release. The Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer was released in about 6900 screens in India and over 2000 screens overseas. The film exceeded expectations and grossed over Rs 85 crore in India on its first day. 2.0 grossed Rs 519–800 crore worldwide.
