Kamal Haasan to not contest Tamil Nadu elections, to support DMK

Actor Kamal Haasan’s party, Makkal Needhi Maiam, has decided not to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections and will instead back the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai described the move as a “historic and selfless sacrifice.”

Annadurai said that DMK leader M. K. Stalin welcomed Haasan’s decision, calling it a noble step taken in the larger interest of Tamil Nadu and its people. He added that DMK workers and leaders were grateful for Haasan’s support, stating that the actor-politician had placed public welfare above party interests.
