Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Punjabi film Sardaar Ji 3 has been mired in controversy over its casting. The film, which was released last week, marks the Indian film debut of Pakistani artist Hania Aamir. Due to the current geopolitical tensions between the two countries following the Pahalgam terror attack, India banned collaborations with Pakistani artists. Since Sardaar Ji 3 was shot before the attacks, the makers decided to release the film only overseas. While the makers were aware of the box office impact of skipping an India release, the film has definitely surprised at the global box office.
According to the makers, in its opening weekend, Sardaar Ji 3 impressed at the box office with a whopping Rs 18.1 crore collection. The film collected Rs 4.32 crore on opening day (June 27). Day 2 saw collections go up to Rs 6.71 crore. On Day 3, the film collected Rs 7.07 crore. The total worldwide collection came up to Rs 18.1 crore globally.
A major share of the collection came from Pakistan. The film collected PKR 3.5 crore on the opening day in the country. With this, Sardaar Ji 3 became the highest-opening Indian film in Pakistan, beating the record held by Salman Khan’s Sultan. The Ali Abbas Zafar film had collected PKR 3.4 crore on the opening day back in 2016.
