Indian Idol 12 host Aditya Narayan issued an apology after the makers of the reality show were accused of showing Maharashtra’s Alibaug town in poor light in its recent episode.

After receiving a lot of flak for taking a dig at singer Amit Kumar for criticizing the contestants on Indian Idol, host Aditya Narayan again landed in trouble, this time for hurting the sentiments of the people of Alibaug. The actor, however, had to issue an apology after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) demanded to do so.

Aditya Narayan wrote in his apology on the Instagram story, "With a humble heart and folded hands I want to apologise to the people of Alibaug and everyone who has been hurt by my sentence on a recent episode of Indian Idol that I’m currently hosting. The intention was never to hurt anyone. I have immense love and respect for Alibaug. My own sentiments are connected with the place, its people and this soil."

His statement comes after the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena on Monday had objected to the words used by Aditya Narayan while hosting the show, which depicted Alibaug in a poor light.
MNS Chitrapat Sena chief Amey Khopkar, in a Facebook live session, said he had been informed Aditya had used the words, part of street lingo, which pokes fun at people of Alibaug as small-town simpletons unused to the ways of metropolitan Mumbai. Khopkar said he had spoken to Udit Narayan, a hugely popular playback singer and Aditya's father, as well as Sony TV officials on the issue. "People on these Hindi channels so easily say, ‘Hum Kya Alibaug se aaye hai kya?’, and I think they are not aware of the rich cultural heritage that comes from Alibaug. If we, people of Alibaug, get upset, they don’t know what we can do, we won’t let the show take place. With this comment, they have insulted us," said Khopkar.
The MNS leader said Sony TV has been told that an apology was a must in the next episode of the show or his party will take action.
