Shweta was introduced to the world of acting with the television show, Aane Wala Pal in 2000. After doing a couple of daily soaps like Karam and Kaahin Kissii Roz, she bagged the lead role in Ekta Kapoor's highly popular serial, Kasautii Zindagii Kay. The actress immortalised the role of Prerna Sharma with the right balance of innocence and courage. She was associated with the show for almost 7 years, Shweta featured in a couple of episodes of Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat.
Breaking the image of a perfect Indian bahu, Shweta tried her hand at different scripts and even participated in reality shows. In the 2000s, she was among the top actresses and even now, she remains a popular face with a strong and loyal fanbase. Shweta was a contestant on reality shows like Nach Baliye 2, Jjhoom India and Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao to name a few.
Her career's next milestone after Kasautii Zindagii Kay was Bigg Boss 4 in 2010. The favourite 'bahu' of Indian television won the hearts of millions with her game on the reality show. She took home the trophy.
After a bout of reality shows, Shweta returned to fiction as Sweety in Parvarrish – Kuchh Khattee Kuchh Meethi from 2011 to 2013. The daily soap was about two families having different ways of raising their kids and she played Rupali Ganguly's elder sister. Raising the bar a notch higher and trying out various subjects without getting repetitive and monotonous, Shweta did an episodic with Ekta Kapoor in Ek Thhi Naayka. Changing perceptions of the audience, Shweta has rarely done similar roles in his career. Wearing each character like her second skin, the actress added her personal touch to every show she signed.
While Shweta was active on the acting front, she focused equally on maintaining good health and looking graceful. The actress always had a well-toned body but just before participating in Khatron Ke Khiladi 11, she underwent a drastic transformation and gave many fitness freaks and actresses a run for their money.
Reinventing herself with every new project, Shweta donned the avatar of a dancer who entered Begusarai to make money by dancing at events. Shedding the image of a bahu, she kicked the ball out of the park with her unconventional choices and impactful performances.
Her longest break came from 2016 to 2019. After Begusarai, she picked yet another family entertainer, titled Mere Dad Ki Dulhan, in 2019. Khatron Ke Khiladi 11 came in 2021 and established her as a powerful performer. The actress attempted to excel in every task and nailed most of them. The trophy didn't come to her, but she ended her journey in the 4th position. A favourite among showrunners, Shweta once again broke barriers with Main Hoon Aparajita.
Shweta, who acted in a few films in the initial stages of her career, will feature in a prominent role in Rohit Shetty's upcoming film, Singham Again. It appears she will be playing a cop alongside Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and Ranveer Singh in the action thriller. She shared a picture with Rohit and wrote, "With “The Man Himself!"
