Playing the lead in Jagriti, Vijayendra Kumeria on being lucky enough to find roles that have layers as he refuses to play ‘vanilla characters’

There is very little that Vijayendra Kumeria has not done in television. From playing supporting characters to the antagonist and the lead, he has explored it all. Despite being in the industry since 2011, the actor says monotony has never struck him because he has been lucky enough to get roles with plenty of layers. “My character always evolves with the story. [In Jagriti—Ek Nayi Subah], I started out as an anti-hero, but now he has turned positive. When I was doing Udaan, it was a hardcore negative role, then he transformed. In Mose Chhal Kiye Jaaye, I played the antagonist till the end. This breaks the monotony because I tend to get bored with vanilla characters,” says the actor, adding that he ensures all his characters have a spark without going over the top.
Two months ago, Kumeria, who had just wrapped up Deewaniyat, was roped in to play the lead role of Suraj Thakur in Jagriti. The response, he says, has been positive so far. “The show is being received well, the TRPs have improved after the leap. I am happy with the performance of the show,” says Kumeria.
