To crack down on the unlawful and obscene content circulating on the internet, the government has taken the bold step by directing Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to disable public access to 25 OTT platforms. These include big and popular names such as Ullu, ALTT, and Desiflix.
A notification was issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), which emphasised that the intermediaries are responsible for removing or disabling access to unlawful information under the Information Technology Act, 2000, as well as the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
