Mumbai: 2 booked for issuing death threats to Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis

The unidentified accused, during an interview with a news channel, issued threats to Devendra Fadnavis, said Santacruz Police.

Santacruz Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified person for allegedly threatening to kill Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The unidentified accused, during an interview with a news channel, issued threats to Fadnavis. The police have also booked another person for hate speech for uploading the threat video on social media site Facebook. 


According to police sources, the FIR was filed against the unidentified accused based on a complaint by social worker and Santacruz resident Akshay Panvelkar (32). Panvelkar, who has been associated with Shiv Sena, came across the video while scrolling through videos on Facebook on Tuesday. 


In the video, the accused allegedly verbally abused the senior BJP leader and also said that he would bury him six feet under. 


A police officer told mid-day, "The video, spotted by Panvelkar, was uploaded on Facebook by one Yogesh Sawant; he has been booked along with the person who threatened to kill Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis in the interview."

"We have registered the FIR under sections IPC 500 (defamation), 505(3) (statements conducing public mischief), 506(2) (threat), 34 (common intention) and 153-A (promoting enmity between groups). We have conducted an inquiry into this matter," explained a police officer.
