In a crackdown, the Daulat Nagar Police arrested two persons and seized 119 grams of MD (mephedrone) worth approximately Rs 5.95 lakh from <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-civic-body-clears-unauthorised-constructions-in-andheri-west-23613517?lifestyle-culture-article-breakingnews" rel="none">Andheri West</a> late on March 29.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Police Inspectors Avinash Derade and Sachin Khondre raided a room in a chawl near Usmaniya Dairy in Andheri West around 1.30 am.
During the raid, 52-year-old Rehmatulla Jafar Khan and Arshad Razzaq Khan (31), both residents of the locality, were found in possession of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-customs-seizes-rare-antique-coins-smuggled-from-london-23616302" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">contraband </a>and were arrested on the spot.
Police have also booked an absconding accused, Arbaaz Muzammil Khan alias Nanu, for allegedly supplying the drugs.
A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c) and 29 of the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/india-news/article/a-22-year-old-held-under-ndps-act-in-goa-ganja-and-assets-worth-rs-2-lakh-seized-23622580" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">NDPS Act</a>, 1985, at Daulat Nagar Police Station.&nbsp;
The seized MD has an estimated market value of Rs 5.95 lakh. Further investigation is underway.
<h2>Mumbai Police seize 37 kg ganja in Malwani, three arrested</h2>
Mumbai Police on Tuesday seized 37 kilograms of ganja and arrested three individuals in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-31-year-old-woman-assaulted-by-mob-in-malwani-over-child-kidnapping-suspicion-23610596" rel="nofollow">Malwani </a>during a late-night operation, officials said on Tuesday.
The operation was carried out by the Malvani Police Station. The officials further registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
As per the police officials, the incident occurred around 3:00 am on March 31, when a surveillance team was patrolling near the Poonam Rose Nursery on Marve Road in Mumbai. During the patrolling, the officers noticed suspicious movement in the area and conducted a search, leading to the recovery of 37 kg of ganja allegedly meant for sale.
The officials, while further asserting about the seizure, said that the seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 18.5 lakh in the illegal market.
Following the operation, the police have arrested three accused: Lavkush Phulchand Verma (28), Ankit Kumar Mansingh (24), and Situ Ramkumar Verma (24).
The officials further said that all three accused are currently residing in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-one-injured-after-truck-carrying-oxygen-cylinders-overturns-on-pothole-ridden-bhiwandi-wada-road-23622001?button=next" rel="nofollow">Bhiwandi </a>but are originally from Pratapgarh.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Nagarkar and on the directions of Sandeep Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 11).
Further investigation is underway to trace the source and supply network of the seized narcotics, police added.
