Central Railway witnesses revenue boost, earns Rs 404.72 crore from scrap sales

Central Railway on Sunday said that it has recorded scrap sales worth Rs 40472 crore so far in the financial year 202526 reaffirming its commitment to achieving ldquoZero Scrap StatusrdquoAs of February 11 2026 the railway zone reported a growth of around 281 per cent compared to Rs 39365 crore earned during the same period in the previous financial year 202425Central Railway said the achievement reflects its strong push towards the Zero Scrap Mission which aims to convert unused and old materials into revenuegenerating assets while ensuring efficient use of resourcesThe revenue was generated through the systematic disposal of different categories of scrap and released materialsThe materials sold during the period include Rail permanentway scrap 40177 metric tonnessleepers 255318 unitsferrous scrap 25790 metric tonnes nonferrous scrap 3325 metric tonnes androlling stock 47 locomotives 70 coaches and 110 wagonsOfficials said the organised and timely disposal of these materials helped boost overall revenueIntensive drives across divisionsThe Stores Department carried out focused drives to identify and clear scrap lying in remote and scattered locations These included Kurla Cutting Yard Traction Machine Workshop in Nashik Parel Workshop and Manmad Workshop along with all five divisions under Central RailwayAmong them the Bhusawal Division emerged as the top performer recording scrap sales of Rs 9772 crore as of February 11 2026The strong performance highlights its continued efforts towards financial discipline operational efficiency and environmental sustainability the Central Railway saidOfficials added that the zone remains committed to meeting its Zero Scrap target and improving resource management across its networkCR earns Rs 238 cr after 640 lakh passengers travel in Harbour Line AC localsCentral Railwayrsquos newly launched AC local services on Mumbais Harbour Line have seen a strong response from commuters with 640 lakh passengers travelling within the first 16 days of its operationsAccording to a Central Railway the AC Harbour Line services recorded 640017 passengers between January 26 and February 10 2026 an average of 40017 commuters per dayCR earns Rs 238 crore from AC local ticket salesDuring this period the Central Railway earned Rs 238 crore from AC local ticket sales averaging Rs 1490 lakh per day Of the total revenue Rs 179 crore came from season tickets while Rs 59 lakh was generated through journey ticketsOfficials said the strong response reflects a growing preference among Mumbai local train commuters to upgrade from conventional nonAC first and second class coaches to the enhanced comfort of AC local servicesCurrently Central Railway operates 94 AC local services including 14 new services introduced on the Harbour Line on January 26 2026Ticket checking drives intensified in AC localsTo curb ticketless and irregular travel Central Railwayrsquos Mumbai Division has intensified special ticket checking drives in AC locals and at stations across the networkBetween January 26 and February 10 ticket checking teams detected 810 cases of irregular travel in Harbour Line AC locals and recovered Rs 250 lakh as a penaltyIn the financial year 2025ndash26 up to February 10 2026 ticket checking squads identified 101 lakh cases of passengers travelling without proper tickets in AC locals across both Main Line and Harbour Line routes A total penalty of Rs 322 crore was recovered during this periodRailway authorities said the enforcement action sends a clear message that irregular travel in AC local trains will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against offendersCentral Railway reiterated its commitment to providing safe comfortable and efficient travel for Mumbai suburban commuters and appealed to passengers to travel with valid tickets to avoid penalties and inconvenience
