A Chennai-based woman was intercepted at <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/54-live-exotic-animals-seized-from-bangkok-passenger-at-mumbai-airport-23588799" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai International Airport</a> by Mumbai Customs early Tuesday morning for attempting to traffic two wild species of primates.
The primates were found confined inside a basket hidden within her luggage in extremely suffocating conditions.
The animals are currently under medical care and supervision by a team of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/drugs-exotic-animals-seized-at-mumbai-airport-by-customs-department-3-passengers-held-23589219" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">wildlife experts</a>, rescuers, and veterinarians from RAWW (Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare) on a temporary basis.
The primates will be deported in accordance with the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which safeguards them under Schedule IV of the Act, and they are also listed under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species).
