Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday virtually inaugurated the TardeoNagpadaMumbai Central flyover a crucial eastwest connector aimed at easing traffic congestion in south MumbaiThe flyover links key areas including Tardeo Nagpada and Mumbai Central railway station offering commuters a smoother alternative route Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was also present during the virtual inaugurationThe new structure replaces a 130yearold Britishera bridge at Mumbai Central that had been declared unsafe and dismantled disrupting connectivity in the area for nearly two years333Metre Flyover to Decongest Major RoutesThe flyover spans a total length of 333 metres comprising 13839 metres on the eastern side 15739 metres on the western side and 3690 metres within railway limits It features a 7metrewide carriageway along with pedestrianfriendly footpaths on both sidesOfficials said the project is expected to significantly reduce congestion on key arterial roads such as Jehangir Boman Behram Road earlier Bellasis Road Dr Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg Grant Road Pathe Bapurao Marg and the Mahalaxmi station bridgeCompleted Ahead of Deadline Despite ChallengesThe Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC completed the flyover in a record 15 months and six daysmdashwell ahead of the stipulated deadline with nearly four months to spareThe project required close coordination between multiple agencies including the BMCrsquos bridges department railway authorities traffic police and local ward offices Work over railway tracks was carried out by railway authorities while the civic body handled construction of approach roads and structural componentsComplex Execution Involving Multiple HurdlesThe construction faced several challenges including the relocation of BEST utility lines removal of obstructing structures with rehabilitation provisions demolition of a housing society boundary wall and legal hurdles in the high courtDespite these obstacles authorities ensured all necessary safety protocols were followed Load testing structural stability certification and safety clearances along with a noobjection certificate from railway authorities have been obtainedWith the flyover now open for public use officials expect a significant improvement in traffic flow and connectivity in one of Mumbairsquos busiest corridorsBenefits for Mumbai commutersThe new flyover will have reestablish eastwest traffic connectivity disrupted for two years and reduce congestion on roads including Jahangir Boman Behram Marg and Dr Dadasaheb Bhadkamkar Marg Pathe Bapurao Marg and near Mahalaxmi station bridge
