As the demand for decentralisation of the meat market in Mumbai gains momentum, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday chaired a high-level law and order meeting to review preparedness ahead of Eid al-Adha celebrations on June 7.
Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Rais Shaikh, who was present in the meeting, demanded that facilities at the Deonar slaughterhouse be modernised. “Decentralisation of meat markets across Mumbai should be done,” Shaikh demanded. Besides this, he cited the recent hike in the slaughter fee at Deonar and urged the administration to reduce it to Rs 20.
At the meeting, the issue of certain organisations under the pretext of cow protection creating hurdles in the transportation of non-bovine animals was also raised, to which Shaikh demanded strict action against people involved in such acts.
