Asiatic Society elections postponed indefinitely amid voter list dispute

The elections for key posts at the historic Asiatic Society of Mumbai have been postponed indefinitely after the charity commissioner ordered preparation of a fresh list of eligible voters. The polls had earlier been scheduled for November 8, 2025 and later rescheduled for March 14

The elections to various posts, including that of president, in the management structure of the iconic Asiatic Society of Mumbai (ASM) have been postponed indefinitely. Originally to be held on November 8, 2025, the polls had been postponed to March 14. The cancellation of the elections was mentioned in an order of the charity commissioner.

The order reads, “A sub-committee has been appointed to prepare a list of valid and eligible voters for the purposes of elections strictly as per the provisions and directed not to accept any new applications for membership/claiming right of vote for the purposes of elections.
