A 25-year-old man was saved from drowning after he allegedly jumped into a water body in Thane district with his car, seemingly with the intent to end his life, the officials said on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred near the Ganapati Visarjan Ghat at Kolshet in Thane district of Maharashtra, the Regional Disaster Management Cell in Thane said in a statement on Tuesday.
According to information received at the Disaster Management Room, the incident was reported to the Fire Control Room at around 4:30 PM. The individual involved in the incident is a resident of Thane. He allegedly took his car to the location and, along with the vehicle, jumped into the water of the creek.
Fortunately, swift action from a brave bystander and a local resident saved the man's life, the officials said.
They said that the man swam to him and successfully pulled him to safety.
The local authorities responded promptly to the incident. Police personnel from Kapurbawadi police station and the disaster management team, along with a pickup vehicle, were dispatched to the scene. Additionally, firefighters arrived with an emergency tender to assist in the rescue operation. No injuries were reported in the incident, the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) said in a statement.
The submerged car was successfully retrieved from the creek with the help of the emergency tender. It was later handed over to the staff at Kapurbawadi police station for further investigations in the case. The police is also investigating the cause of the man's extreme step.
Meanwhile, in an another incident on Sunday, an 18-year-old boy allegedly drowned while swimming in Terna river in Maharashtra's Latur district on Sunday, police said, according to the PTI.
The incident took place at Gunjarga village of Nilanga tehsil in the afternoon, an official said, as per the PTI.
The police had launched a search operation for the body, but later suspended the same due to poor light, the official said.
A team from the disaster management cell will resume the search on Monday, tehsildar Usha Shrangare said, according to the PTI.
