<p>The police said that five persons were killed and two sustained injuries after their speeding car fell onto a dry riverbed in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/amp/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-msrtc-told-to-pay-9-year-old-rs-37-lakh-for-bus-mishap-23541171" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district</a> in the early hours of Monday, reported news agency PTI.</p>
<p>The Ratnagiri accident occurred near Khed around 5.45 am, when the vehicle first hit the divider and fell into the dry river bed of the Jagbudi River, an official said.</p>
<p>He said the car was heading towards Devrukh town from Nallasopara in Palghar district.</p>
<p>Three women and two men were killed, while two persons were injured, he said.</p>
<p>The official said the deceased were identified as Mitali Vivek More (43), Megha Paradkar (22), Saurabh Paradkar (22), Nihar More (19) and Shreyas Sawant (23), reported PTI.</p>
<p>He said officials from the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-one-killed-as-truck-rams-into-two-wheeler-in-thane-23540462" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Khed police station</a> rushed to the spot, and a rescue operation was conducted.</p>
<p>As the river was dry, the vehicle crashed into boulders, killing some of the occupants on the spot, he said, adding that the injured were undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ratnagiri, reported PTI.</p>
<p>A case is being registered at Khed police station, and further probe is underway, the official said.</p>
<h2>Elderly couple, 47-year-old son killed as MUV rams into motorcycle in Latur</h2>
<p>In another case, an elderly couple and their son were killed in a collision between a motorcycle and a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-five-year-old-girl-killed-her-younger-sister-injured-in-accident-in-thane-city-23532841" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">multi-utility vehicle</a> (MUV) in Latur on Saturday, a police official said, reported PTI.</p>
<p>The incident took place at 2:45 pm near Halgara Pati on Latur-Zaheerabad national highway, the official said.</p>
<p>"Kashinath Shankar Kamble (77), his wife Jijabai Kamble (67) and their son Krantikumar Kamble (47), residents of Shivajinagar locality in Nilanga, died on the spot after their motorcycle was hit by a Force MUV. The three were returning to Nilanga from Gooti village in Karnataka," the official said, reported PTI.</p>
<p>Such was the impact that the three were flung several feet away, the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/amp/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-one-dead-26-injured-after-private-bus-overturns-on-slope-in-raigad-district-23535454" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Aurad-Shahajani police station</a> official added.</p>
