The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (ST) earned a record revenue of Rs 137.37 crore from passenger fares during the four-day period of August 8 to 11, coinciding with the Rakshabandhan festival.
On August 11 alone, the ST recorded a remarkable single-day revenue of Rs 39 crore from passenger transport. This marks the highest revenue earned in the current financial year, said Transport Minister and ST Corporation Chairman Pratap Sarnaik.
According to Sarnaik every year, ST witnesses peak earnings during the festivals of Rakshabandhan and Bhai Dooj (Diwali) owing to the significant passenger traffic of siblings visiting each others’ homes. Consequently, Rakshabandhan has consistently been the period when ST achieves its highest revenue of the year.
