The Mumbai Police have taken disciplinary action against Police Constable Chavan, who allegedly rammed a police jeep into a 20-year-old ITI (Industrial Training Institute) student — Raghuveer Prahlad Kumbhar — in Vile Parle, causing injuries. Chavan is attached to the Protection Branch, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against him. The police are also awaiting his blood test report to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Kumbhar reportedly saved his friend Gauri, 15, by pushing her out of the way when the speeding police vehicle approached them on Sunday night. He sustained multiple injuries to his hand, chest, thighs, and legs. He told the police that Chavan appeared to be intoxicated and fled the scene without offering any medical assistance.
