The busy Eastern Express Highway, providing connectivity between Mumbai and areas under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) of Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan Dombivli, cuts through the N and S wards, which are among the northernmost wards of the city’s eastern suburbs.
Comprising Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, and Mulund East, the two wards are a mix of suburban residential areas and industrial and commercial zones. They are also bordered by the eastern coastline of Mumbai, leading upto the Thane creek. Areas in both wards have seen a surge in development over the past two decades, also leading to several unauthorised commercial structures dotting public places.
