The advent of southwest monsoon, 15 days ahead of schedule in Maharashtra, led to multiple issues, including waterlogging, floods, infrastructure disruptions, and multiple casualties across the state. According to the official reports by the Disaster Management, Relief and Rehabilitation Department, the monsoon current entered Sindhudurg on May 25 and reached Mumbai by Monday, which is much before the expected date of June 11.
A low pressure area was created over the Arabian Sea on May 22, which led to a depression. This depression then moved towards Ratnagiri and Dapoli, triggering monsoon showers in western and central Maharashtra.
