Residents of Shivaji Park in central <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-mayor-many-corporators-from-eknath-shinde-led-shiv-sena-do-not-want-bjp-mayor-in-mumbai-claims-sanjay-raut-23612550" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Mumbai</a> on Sunday held a silent protest, demanding the immediate measures for red soil dust pollution.
According to an official statement, the protest was organised by the Shivaji Maharaj Park Residents&rsquo; ALM (Advanced Locality Management), with local residents taking part in a signature campaign.
Participants also signed a letter that will be submitted to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, seeking urgent action on what they described as polluted red soil dust in the park, the statement said.
<h2>Residents join in</h2>
Around 60 residents joined the protest and signed the letter. The residents said they have been regularly following up with the BMC&rsquo;s G North Ward officials but have not received a satisfactory response.
According to the residents, the dust <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bmc-mechanical-broom-raises-dust-on-western-express-highway-worsening-mumbai-air-pollution-23611891" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">pollution</a> has led to respiratory health issues, especially among senior citizens, children and those with existing breathing problems. They questioned why the issue has not been treated as a priority despite repeated complaints.
<h2>Resolve our problem, locals tell BMC</h2>
Residents also said they were being denied their fundamental right to breathe clean and fresh air. They urged the civic body to explain why the problem has not been resolved and called for immediate corrective measures.
The residents have appealed to the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bmc-election-2026-results-maharashtra-sec-declares-results-for-mumbais-221-out-227-seats-bjp-wins-87-shiv-sena-ubt-victorious-in-64-wards-23612350" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">BMC</a> to take swift action to remove the red soil dust and ensure a safe and healthy environment at Shivaji Maharaj Park.
