The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected a fine of Rs 65,000 from seven establishments that were collecting waste in bulk from locations outside Mumbai and dumping it in the city, officials said on Friday.

BMC's L ward, corresponding to Kurla area, imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a company named Gaurav Caterers for dumping waste in the Mithi River near Sakinaka, after collecting it from Khar, on the night of July 30.

In a statement issued on Friday, BMC said, "A large amount of leftover food was thrown in the Mithi River near Sakinaka by Gaurav Caterers. After this came to the notice of BMC's L ward, they inspected the area and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Gaurav Caterers."
