Some portion of the promenade of the Marine Drive-Worli Coastal Road suffered some damage during its construction as a result of strong waves during the high tide, civic officials said on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday. A portion of the pavement and parapet wall of the promenade close to the tunnels near Priyadarshani Garden sustained some damage as they were hit by waves. The intensity of the waves was so strong that some tiles and materials from the promenade got dislodged and fell on the northbound carriageway of the coastal road, they said.
“The damage occurred during the high tide,” a senior BMC official said, adding that though it affected the ongoing promenade work, their engineers and contractors have been asked to carry out necessary repairs immediately.
