The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the city on Saturday and Sunday, and an orange alert for the next three consecutive days after that.

Speaking with mid-day, an IMD official said, “The city is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall between Saturday and Sunday, with isolated patches of extremely heavy rainfall. During these two days, rainfall in some parts of the city is likely to be around 200 mm. However, such areas are difficult to identify. Most of them are located in hilly areas such as Borivli and Navi Mumbai.”
