Ahead of Diwali, the Mumbai Police have prohibited flying, sale and use of lanterns in the city.

A prohibitory order issued by the police on Wednesday said, as reports have been received that due to the situation prevailing in the areas under the control of the Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, it is noticed that the use, sale and storage of flying Lanterns during October 16 to November 14 in Mumbai Police Commissionerate area may cause grave danger to human life, safety and injury to public property.
It further said, the use, sale and storage in the Mumbai Police Commissionerate, to prevent the activities of antisocial elements through flying lanterns, immediate action is necessary for the prevention of the same.

The order issued by DCP (Operations) Sanjay Latkar further said that no flying activities of such type of flying lanterns and no use, sale and storage is to be allowed in the jurisdiction Mumbai Police Commissionerate. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
The order would be published for the information of the public, the affixing copies on the notice boards of the police stations, Divisional ACPs, Zonal DCPs, Municipal Ward offices and by affixing copies at Tahsil and Ward offices.
