According to the preliminary police report, the trailer lost control due to brake failure while descending on a slope, careening into multiple vehicles, including cars, a mini bus, and another truck. One woman was killed and 18 people were injured in a multi-vehicle accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway around 1.40 pm on Saturday, after a trailer suffered brake failure in Khalapur taluka. The trailer-truck roared downhill, out of control, for 6km hitting several vehicles and causing a 25-car pile-up.
“One 58-year-old woman Anita Ekhande, a native of Dharashiv, died in the accident,” The superintendent of police, Raigad district, Anchal Dalal confirmed to Sunday mid-day. “Eighteen people are injured, two of them are critically wounded. They are recuperating at MGM Hospital in Panvel,” Dalal added.
